The Argonauts (IRL)
Installation (documentation in progress)
Based on the emergence of 'new minerals' such as molten plastics in active volcano regions and polysterene pebbles, the aurgonauts (IRL) features two artificial boulders held captive in a looped conversation. 3-d scanned from actual stones from Dover and Calais coastal areas, then milled with a robotic arm, the objects within the installation communicate through a computer code. The code was installed onto a communication system on their insides connected to the boulders' external LED lights. 'I,' one of the boulders remarks in morse code, and 'I,' the other reciprocates, stuck in a repeating self-affirmation. The work's title references a book by author Maggie Nelson of the same title.
